american imported BIC deck(mains wiring)
i'm not a dj but this someone in this place might be able to help.
i just got hold of a BIC record deck,trouble is as it was imported from USA (i'm told)the mains lead has a blue and black wires,which is live and which is nuetral?i hopwe some kind person can tell me cos i don't wanna blow me self up.thanks,john. |

Howdy
Since you are in the UK, judging by your BT ISP, the bigger problem will be that your deck will probably be wired for the US mains voltage - 110-115 VAC, not the UK 240-250 VAC. Check this first. If the deck can run on the UK mains, then the power lead will have a Blue wire for Neutral/Negative and a Brown wire for Phase/Live/Positive. There may also be a Green or Green/Yellow wire for Earth/Ground. A voltage convertor is NOT always suitable on decks. Whilst it's easy to
drop 240v to 110v ok, US mains is 60hz v UK's 50hz. Some decks use the mains frequency to govern the speed (granted not seen one for a few years). |
