Amp?
I am sort of new to the DJ Scene. I am running two two Gemini
XL-500's, a laptop, and a CD player through an American DJ Mixer. I have a 15" Kustom (unpowered) speaker with a 1/4" input. The outputs on the mixer are phono. What kind of amplifier do I use? I don't want to spend over $175-200 on this piece. All of the amps that I have looked at have banana plug outputs, or regular speaker wire outputs. How do I go from that to the 1/4" jack on my speaker? It is probably something simple, as I am sure most speakers have the 1/4" inputs. |

Re: Amp?
Quite honestly, Kustoms are for the most part, entry level speakers and 100
watts should do okmwith them. Did you ever consider a home stereo or home theater amp? You really don't need a lot of wattage to push those Kustoms. Or....Get jumpers made with bannana on one end and RCA (phono) at the other. Note: most of the really good stuff will have " Neutric SpeakOn" connectors, "dj joec" <jconrad@shiawassee.net> wrote in message news:d816b6c9.0310200731.6074bb46@posting.google.c om... > I am sort of new to the DJ Scene. Re: Amp?
What is the rating of the speakers? Make sure the wattage of the amp is at
least the wattage of the speakers. If not you can damage the speakers. Don't worry too much about the connections on the amp, that is a minor consideration. If you don't know how to use a soldering iron, get the retailer to make the leads for you. Brands vary as to the connectors. XLR, speakons, banana, bare wire etc. You will have to get used to the idea of making up cable as you get different equipment. If you unscrew the 6.5's you have, the centre wire will be "hot" ( the Plus Wire) the outer will be your Minus. Some banana plugs don't need soldering btw. Same with speakons. Pretty much all 6.5's and xlr's do need solder. But none of this should really effect your decision.
