any pointers for a dj chick?

I'm looking to buy some dj gear but have no idea what I should buy as
a new comer to the scene. Belt drive, direct drive, mixers, all the
brands... I'm a little lost... what specs should I aim for if I wanted
a decent mid-range package without too many bells and whistles, but
will handle a little better than my vw golf?

Any pointers would be much appreciated!! )

Re: any pointers for a dj chick?

Forget belt drive if you are going to take it seriously. Think Technics for
decks if you have the budget. The main reason is that if you decide it isn't
for you, not only are they great decks, but they are easy to offload.

You will need at least 2 channels on your mixer. Plus a mic input. But
preferably, you will want a mxr that has four channels in total. Often
these are switchable between Phono (TT) and Line (CD) signals.

Re: any pointers for a dj chick?

Hi

I hope i can help u a bit , i'm using 2 direct drive turntables stanton Str
100 and a behringer Dx500 mixtable with a nice little kaos pad 2

it's not too much for a techno mix and the cheapest i can get

if you have a little bit more money you can look out for a Rodec mixtable
it's the best i have ever seen

you can look out for dj gear packs it's often cheaper to get all in one time
but direct drive is better if you want to scratch or do some technique
tricks

sorry for my bad english perhaps i will learn it one day )))

re: any pointers for a dj chick?

Technics for sure... Mixer depends on your application and budget...
Best to shop arund for the features you want and come up with a few
models and then ask other people opinions on those models.

well, I'm sure you've probably bought everything by now, but I'm bored
so I'll post an answer anyway. I'd definetly go with the popular
opinion of getting Technics, even used ones hold up great. As far as a
mixer, your first one will probably just be something to learn on. It
needs at least two channels, a 3 band EQ for each channel (for proper
fade ins and outs) and that's about it. Later when you wreck your
mixer you'll still have great tables and be ready for something like
the pioneer 600, or something a little more flashy. I've used the
berranger 500, nice basic mixer, and I think they've gone down in
price a bit.
Good luck

Forgot to tell her to watch for guys named "Larry" that have a video phone
and 2 beepers hanging on his belt and repeatedly excuses himself to take
incoming calls at the club
