any way to host an internet radio station for free?

OK, so i'm not sure how many of you remember the day's when Live365 was still free to make a station on. Well, i'm wondering if there's any place that STILL lets you make stations for free. All the stuff i'd be playing would be on indie labels, so royalty BS shouldn't be that big of an issue. Also, if you can't a free service, i'd settle for an inexpensive one. Live365 just isn't that cheap anymore

Thanks in advance to everyone!

I don't know of free services already, but if you have a server or some webspace somewhere, you can set up a shoutcast station

A SHOUTcast station, with a decent server, is expensive to run if you don't have any listeners. If you're going to try and run a station, make sure you have listeners.

I don't think that many free hosts will let you run a shoutcast server. You have to have root/shell acess to do it, and that makes it very easy to nuke a server: rm -rf

Get an old computer and run a server on linux with it. Unless it gets big, you should be fine.

Thanks for the advice everyone! I do appreciate it. Let me know if you find any free or cheap Shoutcast servers, and i'll give them a try.

You won't, that's what I've been saying. People just don't let out dedicated servers for free.

Listeners are the lifeblood of any music stations might it be online or on the radio. Without them, your station would not survive at all.

But if you really are interested into making your brand new online station, you need considerable numbers of advertisements to attract listeners. Then that will add more expense to you besides the server fee.
