Best entry level PA Setup for DJ?
Hi there,
I'm looking to start Djing in pubs and clubs. No turntables involved, I just want to play music through my laptop. I have a good idea about sound cards etc, so that's cool. Does anyone have any recommendations for a P.A. setup? I've been looking at hundreds of different setups, from all-in-ones like the Fender Passport to modular units...etc etc. www.thomann.de to alot of package deals, but some have corssovers some don't, some have bass bins, some don't etc. I'm not sure what's essential. I can get extras as i go along, but for now I don't have a Van to fill up with tons gear, so the simplest solution re: mixer, amp, tops and bins would be best. Any help greatly appreciated! Cheers, Chris. |

Mixer: Behringer UB502 $40 Allows mixing of mic, laptop, and CD player if necessary Amps: Behringer EP2500 (tops) $300, EP1500 (subwoofer) $250 Crossover: Behringer CX3400 $140 Tops: Behringer B1220 Pro's $500/pr Subwoofer: Yorkville LS808 $600 Power it with the EP1500 bridged $1830 total, call it $1900 including cables, and that's good for up to around 250 people or so at club/dance levels, should fit in a typical wagon with back seats down. Later when you get the van you can add another pair of B1220 Pro's to the same EP2500, and another LS808/EP1500 combo if necessary. You might be happier with the smaller LS608, but it can only do 2/3 what a LS808 can, despite using the same driver. Do not power two LS808's or LS608's off one amp bridged, their impedence is actually under 7 Ohms each, so each side of the amp sees less than 2 ohms, more like 1.65. For DJ purposes the EP1500 is actually a little too much power for one LS808, but not by much. An EP2500 is a little shy on power for a pair of LS808's, and it's better to overpower an LS808 than to overdrive a Behringer amp. |

Re: Best entry level PA Setup for DJ?
o.k. another Laptop-DJ...
....welcome in the business! I hope you are not one of thousands newbies with a 20.000-Kaaza-song collection and no feeling for the right music and no idea of real entertainment... First thing you may invest some money is a proper multichannel soundcard. Forget about the cheap USB-Solutions - sounds crap and latencies to high for beatmixing. Look for a top RME one like Hammerfall-Multiface or RPM. It's worth the money you spend on! No struggeling with drivers, best studio sound, high dynamic and at least 1,5 ms latency! A fully equiped Behringer PA is the best bang for your money - but there are better sounding stuff avalible - but you have to double the investment ;-) The EP-amps are fine! The Mixer should be something better - very good deal with good price are the Tascam 19"-Consoles. |

Re: Best entry level PA Setup for DJ?
Behringer now has a replacement warranty in effect on all purchases. You
buy it and have a problem you get another one at the same place you bought it from same day and they handle the warranty stuff..... for the life of the warranty...
