Best software for creating own mix?
Hello -- I've never been to this newsgroup before, so I apologize if this is
a lame newbie question. I've just started working on editing my own music mix with Magix Music Maker 2004 Deluxe. I'm beginning to wonder if this is really the right software to use for this kind of thing or if I just don't have the hang of it yet. Are there any programs people particularly recommend for this? What I'm trying to do is take a bunch of uptempo big-band-era songs and mix them together, taking out slower parts, and keeping the tempo fairly steady. What I have trouble with is getting the tempo exactly right. It would also be nice to have more "filler" riffs -- Magix has them for all sorts of styles, but apparently not big band (probably because people don't usually mix big band). Anyway, what software is ideal for this, using Windows XP? |

What software have you looked at so far or or searched and read the
specifications for? This might require 2 separate peices. As stupid as it sounds Winamp has what I think is the easiest tempo control Pacemaker and it's free! So 2 soundcards 1 to Play and 1 to Record I do this all the time. Adjust audio properties for Sound playback to soundcard 1 and Sound recording to soundcard 2 Done! Re: Best software for creating own mix?
Thanks for the reply. I'm figuring out a few things with Magic Music Maker
now, but I'll give Winamp a try for controlling meter. This is the first thing I've ever tried to mix in my life, so I haven't done a lot of research into the available software. I think I was naively hoping I could find a program where I could take some 15 songs, press a few buttons and have a CD-quality mix ready to go. :-) Unfortunately, I'm learning it's a lot more work than that. Music Maker has a device for detecting BPM, but it only works to a limited extent -- a loud note can sometimes be mistaken for a beat, throwing off the count. You can manually tap in the tempo, but my own sense of rhythm leaves something to be desired. What I've ended up doing for most of the songs is tapping the tempo, seeing what number I get most of the time (it continuosly gives you an estimated rate based on your most recent taps), and manually entering that number as the tempo. Then of course, when you speed up the tempo too much, the sound quality falls apart. Anyway, I'm developing a much greater appreciation for djs who mix music well.
