Building A Crowd

Sometimes you'd think being a DJ, building a crowd would be easy. But is it really? When you start playing, do you instantly get a crowd?

I was actually just going to ask, how do you build a crowd when you're just new - like I mean just new?

I think word of mouth can get you really far, just a quick whisper from the right person with the knack of pulling people in could do wonders. Otherwise, advertise yourself out there, and get friends to hand out fliers, always worked for my buddies.

It depends on what type of DJing you do. I did a topless radio show. Which won me the rating of most listened to spot, with 5 listeners. I know college radio can be pathetic eh? Internet DJing can be worked the same way. Something live where people can see you is a bit less easy to create instant buzz, but having people pass out flyers can help tons. Hit up your most unusual friends or the best looking ones. Once you get them to come out, all you have to do is prove that you don't suck.

I like to wear bunny ears. People remember them quite well and while they may not think I'm better than other DJs they've heard they recognize me quicker on a flyer listing.

You mean no clothing from belly up? I would like to see you play again with that kind of show.

I guess you can invite friends first to listen up with your music. Because they are your friends, they could give you comments even though its negative and you can improve from there. Its really not good for other people to give negative comments to you for they will spread a word that you suck. At least with your friends, they help you in any anyway possible.
