I have over 3000 12 inch records which I would like to copy of CD
using my new Laptop.

I have a cable that connect the Turtable (Technics 1210) to the Laptop
but the sytem requires a software which I don't have.

Can any one help with some free software and tips on how I should make
the connection?

even if you have the software connecting directly the turrntable to your
line in of your laptop you won't get any signal.
What you should do is hook up your TT to your mixer and mixer output to
your laptop. If you don't have any mixer you should get a PhonoPreamp,
connect your TT to it and the phonopreamp to your laptop LineIn. Terratec
does some PhonoPreamps and the package includes the software. Here their

I connected my turntables into mixer, mixer to amp then amp(line out or
aux) to computer "line in" using simple double phono to 3.5mm stereo single
plug. (Make sure it's stereo). You can also connect mixer direct to
computer. I like amp, becuase I can record then from any source connected to
my amp: TV/VCR/tuner/tape deck/mixer etc.

Then get software for the computer: I use wicked little program called
"Audio Record Wizard". Just run a search on the google. It not only records
from line in, but can also record streaming media, mic etc. And it can
record direct to MP3, with excellent quality.

Fianlly use something like Nero for burning CD's. Done
