dj license & music rights?

Hi Peeps.

I've been reading for hours and hours on Google and on this thread trying to find the right answer.

1.) To become a DJ or in other words to practice the profession as a DJ, do I need a license? If I do, is it international? And/or how is this sorted?

2.) What do I ALSO need to do when considering the DJ-job? Do I need a licensing for using CD's, Laptop, MP3's, etc.?

3.) I have a collection of music which was copied to me as a gift from a DJ while I was on season job in a different country... Can I use these MP3's in my DJing? (I am not quiet sure where he bought them from or if they were bought at all. Some title's are very weird with various symbols such as "$§%&/()$%Ö:L")

Please give me all necessary info and if possible link me to some websites that would proof your statements or otherwise.
