DJ Shadow "Pushin Buttons Live"

I bought The Private Press last year before I was aware of the new
limited edition with "Pushin Buttons Live" included as a second CD.

I don't really want to by the same album over again, but I will if the
16-minute second disc is worth it.

Anyone care to comment on the quality of Pushin? I love The Private
Press and generally prefer Shadow's studio work to his live work. I
bought a recent import of Shadows live show in Austin and I like it
so-so, basically re-mixes of his studio work.

Is Pushin worth the cost of buying Press a second time???

it's quite good, but i'd say you should just burn it off someone who has
it. unless you have a friend who would like the private press disc (so
that it doesn't go to waste when you buy it).

what xlucasx said...

but as far as live shows go: i went to one (warfield in SF, last
october), and it was fucking amazing. also, i've downloaded a few of
his shows. austin's good, but it's not the best. check for some of the
live bbc shows. also, i have a copy of the opening show of the private
press tour (in NYC) on ogg. if you have club access or something, i
could up it.

also, he does two types of live sets: mostly his own stuff (e.g.,
austin), and mostly not his own stuff (e.g., diminishing returns). both
are good, but pretty different.

you got any nce live sets on empeefree??

i thought the "not his own stuff" sets were the deejay sets and the
"own stuff" sets were him with a sampler, some fx box and some decks?

the show i went to last year was amazing. the backdrops and everything
were smart (then again i may be dapping the backdrops becuase i was
twatted on various bits n pieces). when you saw him do "pushing
buttons" did it do the mad thing with the pictures of people drumming
everytime he hit a pad on the sampler?

anyway, i kind of think pushing buttons wont sound too good at home.
its a live thing. im willing to give it a go though. the treach battle
beat/6 days remix thing sounds amazing on a big system as well....

you mean nyc? got it on ogg. which newer versions of winamp play out
the box. i got the wavs though, so if you want, i could encode to mp3.
lemme know...

yeah, true. his live sets seem like they really are him playing his
shit live pretty much how he built it in the first place. but remixed
and stuff, which is cool.

yeah, seeing him last year in SF was one of my best (if not my best)
concert experiences ever. fuckin amazing. ok, so i ate half of the
strongest brownie i've ever had. but shit was ridiculousl none the less.

when you saw him, did he do the thing where he played various parts of
organ donor into a sampler, and sort of kept building it up until he had
the whole song then just launched into it? that was the shit...

and yeah, the visuals were really cool too.

damn, i can't wait till he tours again.

i don't think he did the pushing buttons thing when i saw him...

i meant nice (typing bad). anything would be decent, but MP3 is
favourite. Being at work i cant download winamp, so i dont think i
would be able to play these ogg's....

yeah, he spends a lot of time drumming away on his sampler.
wickedness.

YES!

id forgotten about that. he drops it in with all the scratching and
stuff, like the remix, right? i think everyone went mental when he did
that.

yeah, im there.

when we saw him he did it as an encore. people had left by then as
well. eeejits.

i'm encoding to mp3 right now. it'll be in two parts. check my room in
a few hours, it should be playing by then (assuming my DSL doesn't go
out while i'm asleep).
