I heard long ago that you are only allowed to have something like 10 seconds of dead air time after which you risk huge fines from the FCC. Is this true and is there a reason behind it?

I have no idea whether or not it is true, but I had heard the same thing. I don't understand the purpose of it, other than for the fact that it might cause drivers to fiddle with their dials and maybe get in an accident.

I do not know, but money and corporate greed is probably the reason...just like everything else with music these days.
Hope those lazy out of touch fat cats are enjoying their big paychecks, knowing that they "earned" every dirty cent of it by screwing over the people who are the reason they ever had a job at all...the artists and fans.
This had nothing to do with the thread, but I wanted to rant.
