Do they get the same kind of respect like and from their male counterparts? I was ready something recently and certain male DJs were commenting on the skills of a female DJ. Some thought she was great while the others were just commenting on her boobs and her body?

I think it would just the same as any other male dominated field. I am sure it takes much time to gain the respect needed. I for one have no issues who I am listening to, as long as they are good the music is loud and bumped.

Women nowadays could do anything that a man could do, this goes the same in DJing. Just like fred said, it really doesn't matter who is playing (man or woman, different race) as long as the music is good and that is all that matters.

I think it might depend on where you are and what kind of DJing you are doing. Club DJing is going to be harder than birthday parties, you know? And some guys will never be able to look past your chest unless they can't see you. Thats just how the world is. You just have to keep your head up and strive to be the best you can.

Female radio jocks here in our country are doing well. They got a lot of listeners and all of them got the respect that they deserve.

I just don’t know those female DJ’s in a bar. I haven’t seen one yet. And besides I am not that fond of a bar. I am more into live performances. :)

Just like in any line of work, you can expect some sexist pigs here and there.

Personally I know of quite a few highly talented DJ, although most of them aren't very well known unfortunately.

Hell most of the DJ's I like of either gender you wouldn't have heard of.

In a radio station, do you even know who is jocking/mixing the music if they will tell their name or even just speak? But in bars, most DJ's that I see are males. Honestly, I haven't seen a female DJing in a bar. I would like to see that for a change.

And this my dears is the biggest reason that I choose not to use a microphone when I am DJing. Yes, I am a wuss. But no one needs to know that I do not have a pair between my legs. I am as good as anyone else, and in the clubs I work, I'm high up in a booth, and no one can see me.

Why is it that you don't want to be seen? You should be proud to be the one playing for the club. There are only a few like you who could do it like the men, sometimes even better.
