Do you always use a microphone at your events? I so rarely do that it seems a little superfluous most of the time and so I don't even set it up. I am not the talking type, I have the worst voice in the world on the microphone, so I avoid it where I can.

Most of the people I have been lucky to see, newbies starting out that is, no one famous or anything, they are only used when going to announce something, otherwise most I have seen keep their mouth shut and just do their deal.

The ones I have seen are quite vocal, they talk after every two or three songs to basically build anticipation. It actually works well.

I use one, but I know plenty of people who don't like them and don't use them. I feel its important to talk to help people get a feel for you and your personality. A DJ with good music is one thing, a good DJ with good music who is engaging is easy to remember. DJs that get remembered get a following and book more venues.

It depends on my venue. If I am doing something serious, a night club set or so on, then I don't use one. But for a wedding, or other private hiring then there is often things that I am expected to announce. You know, buffet being ready and so on. So I have it for that.
