Is there a threshold of any amplifier that is being used today? I mean when it will reach the limit of the maximum volume, the speaker would eventually break and the sound will be distorted.

When I was in college, I always change my PC speakers for after a few months, the quality of the sound really sucks already. I think its because of constant turning the volume to the max.

I'm not sure what you mean.

But if you have the volume up all the way, you are going to distort the sound on almost any speaker. I know it goes up that far, but really, it's not meant to be listened to that loud ALL the time. ;)

If your amplifier's impedance and your speaker's impedance don't match you can have distortion problems.

About the only reasonable priced speakers I have ever heard or owned are a set of Bose 901's. (802's for the pro end) They had almost no distortion when turned up all the way. They were made to be that way. You can buy more expensive ones and cheaper ones but none sound as good.
