I want to know how do singers do a singing duet with themselves. I have heard a lot of this kind of singings in the old artists of which I'm sad to say I can't remember their names. My idea is to record a separate verse of the song and then mix them together in a studio. Is my understanding correct?

That is what I would be thinking too, otherwise someone has some serious multitasking skills and I want to know their secret!
