Hi everyone.

In a couple of weeks on November 15th there's a small contest / competition at my college and I'm interested in entering it.

I know my iPod / music interests isn't anything really what people aren't really into in North America / my area, but the sound of some of the songs I do have i believe they may like.

I'd still like some help though. For some info on the competition, check this link out: http://kick.fm/

As for the stuff on my iPod, check out my "What's on my iPod" application on my Facebook here: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=868040592

I contacted one of the DJ guys with this

I was going to ask you as well for how / suggestions / ideas for that November 15th thing...I've never done anything like that before (The DJ thing) - like how do you do it?

All the stuff I have I want to play, but nobody knows the stuff I want to play (check out some of the Japanese stuff I have - including some of the game stuff too) - that's the stuff I want to play, but I know none of that would work.

I know I'm rambling, but I don't know...

Edit: I received a response from the DJ and he said just play what I want sort of thing - but the style of stuff I have that I want to play is limited to an extreme.

I'd like to go with the style and sound of the Black Mages. Now the problem is, I don't know anything / anyone else that has the same sound. If anyone could fire ANY bands / singers / groups. Thanks a lot!

Most of the bands I came up with have names with only Japanese characters, so I'm just going to post the link to where I started searching at. Sounds like a fun thing to do and a great way to expose people to a different genre of music.

(under similar music or artists, then you can branch from each of those)

Well it went quite well, except for a few things:

- They were supposed to announce the winner at 8 PM that night on a certain show; they never mentioned the show at all. I brought up the subject to one of the judges - he didn't know what was going on with that.
- The competition was supposed to be held in an area in the college called "The Cave" which was an area being renovated. It wasn't complete so we ended up doing it in the hallway sadly.
- Barely anyone participated in it - which is good in a way.
- I ended up "taking over the microphone". What do I mean? Well, the other people just plugged in the iPods, introduced themselves, said this song is called "......" and that was it. My playlist was something like this:

Bio Genesis - Schwarz Stein
Black Stone - Gackt
Listen to My Heart - BoA
The Fatal Believer - Dir en Grey
Rosier - Luna Sea
The Final - Dir en Grey
Rosier - Luna Sea

BUT the thing is, I found out last minute that the competition was only an hour long so we could end up only playing part of a song depending on how many people sign up. Thankfully only about 7 people sign up, but only about four showed up (me being one of the four) so I was able to play about two songs. And back to mentioning the "taking over the microphone", they ended up "cutting off" my second song, so I askedfor the microphone when they were doing that so I ended up saying, "Oh I guess she doesn't like that song so I have to go to my second song so this one's called Black Stone from Gackt's 2005 album".

So yeah, my "show" was pretty different than everyone elses...

"Hi my name's Ryan and I'll be playing music that nobody - or very few will understand. I hope everyone will enjoy the sound, and I think I'm talking too much already so this song's called Bio Genesis from Schwarz Stein's 2003 album called New Vogue Children. (I hit play, and as the song started, and the song's a darkwave / electronica song I kinda shouted "Lets get this thing STARTED!" and went from there.

- Song plays, gets cut off near the end, then I do the stuff the paragraph above I mentioned -

At the end of Black Stone I grab the mic again thank everyone (nobody else did...) and just went with the flow and had fun with it. It was the first time ever for me doing something like this.

I've been on the actual radio before though being interviewed over one of my medical conditions, but not me doing anything music related.

But nothing has been done related to the winner of the competition, so I emailed the manager of the station and I just also mentioned that I'm actually interested in trying out in having my own "regular" show (One of the judges confronted me afterwards and said I did really well, we chatted for about 15 minutes, I told her I'd like to do something like this regularely type of thing, and she said I can contact the manager of the station since it's a college / community run station - so I did email him Friday night)

So hopefully I get an email back on Monday. :D

Ewwww, a hallway? Sounds like some really bad planning went into the event. Were they trying to keep funding or something and under pressure to have a certain ammount of events? I hope you find out a winner or at least get a chance at a show. Its good you had fun even within the limits they gave you. Sounds like you've got the gumption to make it.
