Do you like your mp3s?

Do you like mp3s? How would you feel if the RIAA sent you a subpoena to
appear in court to pay $750 for each song?

The Recording Industry Association of America is demanding (and getting)
lists of
names from internet service providers such as Verizon, names that their
clients believed
were strictly confidential. If you don't want your name to wind up being
turned over
to lawyers for the RIAA, see the simple plan to stop this injustice here:

Dear Congressman http://nogov4me.net/archive/riaa.htm

If you want to protect your right to privacy from the music industry
bullying your ISP
into giving them your name, please forward this email or the above link to
everyone you know.

"see the simple plan to stop this injustice here"

I don't want to sound like your mother but this is hardly an injustice to
the people they are targeting. These people are stealing music and all of a
sudden punishing these thefts is an injustice? I don't think so. If you
don't want to get caught then don't share your mp3's online.

I'm not a god so these are just my opinions as an DJ/producer. If anyone
else has any comments please feel free to share them. This is always a
great topic for discussion.

Cheers

Re: Do you like your mp3s?

Yeah, I would have to agree; but apparently my conscience isn't strong
enough to stop me...

If I'm not mistaken, most of the "stealing" is essentially from the record
companies, and I do make it a rule to support the artists that I care about
by buying their CDs, LPs, shirts, etc. The new purchasing paradigm set by
the Apple Music Store works better for pop music, in my opinion, because
certain singles are more desirable than full albums. This is especially
true when the singles are the only truly outstanding songs of a particular
album, with the others being merely mediocre or otherwise.

The general governance of the music scene by big labels requires pressure
from the consumers to further "progression" of the distribution channels,
types of music available, marketing techniques, and to a degree, even
technology. Also, the availability of songs for download gives the populace
a greater breadth and depth of popular music knowledge. I personally know
quite a few people that probably would not have come to love (and purchase!)
music as much as they do without the availabilty of some music for free.

My 25 cents,
Neonik
