You doing this for the right reason?

The music comes first - if you are going to be a DJ you know what music you like and you explore it because you have to - THEN you think about getting some tunes together and then you think about what to do with them.

Getting the kit first and then asking what to do with it is not going to make you a good DJ.

Hello & welcome,

I have to agree with thethirdthing on this one, but at least you have bought good stuff. There are people who buy crap first and subsequently ask if is any good.

Being a DJ is being about musical knowledge. A good start might be a loooooooong session with our best friend Google (or whatever searchengine you prefer) and see what you come up. Check out for instance the wiki-pages http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_music and continue from there: names, termini, and links.
http://deephousepage.com is good reading too.

Another great place on the web is www.discogs.com, which is a huge database of the electronic dance-scene. Almost every decent track you can think of, you will find the backgroundinfo there.

Regarding mixing-techniques and stuff, just fool around and proceed logically about what you do. Feel free to ask any specific question you might come up with.
Have fun most of all, because it's not so much the mixing that counts, it's the music.

p.s.: I almost forgot to mention Ishkur's Guide to Electronic Music which is rather subjective, but still good fun. Most important of all, it has soundsamples.

....and don't worry about all this genre stuff - that will hold you back no end - just truly go for what you like, not what's cool.

Go to clubs, aske DJ's what the name of YOUR favourite track was.

Go to record shops and listen before you buy (you can do this on some web sites).

And as Tossit says, you got some good gear, now get a vibe
