Failing Lights

Have you ever had a show where you lights just would not go? Ever had to deal with the crowd complaints? How bad was it?

The only time I had total failure and had to rely on room lights, they were great about it. It was a wedding for an older couple who in truth didn't want all that stuff. They'd have been happy with a radio on low in the corner, so I lucked out!

Seems like you got really lucky. The closest I had, was going to a concert (not techno music) and the lighting started to freak out. It was a small outside venue, and some people complained, but not nearly as much when the band showed up late. The it started to rain and that took over the lighting issue right away.

I have never had this happen to me and always worried about it. I had thought of maybe having a smaller back up rig or something to at least give them something.

But ultimately I don't have just one large rig that is centrally controlled-so if one part went down, others should still be ok.

I went to a party once where the DJ blew a fuse while setting up and testing his equpiment and the venue didn't have spare fuses (which is totally dumb) so he had to do without most of his lights. The people complained and he quietly explained the situation to anyone who asked him. Needless to say that venue lost alot of potential business.

Ultimately there is a lot that can go wrong, and I learned my lesson. I try and set myself up now so that I am prepared for things going wrong, and hopefully that will stop me facing this in future.

We can't be held responsible for acts of God but blown fuses we might!
