Favorite, And Least Favorite Things About DJ'ing?

Everyone has likes and dislikes, even about their favorite hobbies. DJ'ing is mine, but there are still things about it, even after five years, that make me grin, and other things that make me want to throw my headphones across the room.

My favorite part of the whole thing, is watching my listener volume go up; as a net DJ, I can see how many people are listening and from what part of the world. That's how I know my German music is loved. =)

My least favorite thing, and biggest dislike, is people who request music I don't have. See, where I DJ, I have a list, of every single song I have. In order, categorized, et cetera. And people who are familiar with this list, will repeatedly ask me for music that I don't have. Highly obnoxious.

What are your likes and dislikes?

One of my favorite things is just watching people dance with abandon. I love watching them embrace the music and seeing my music dance.

My least favorite is people who just won't leave me alone. Once they realize you are a DJ they put you up on idol status and just WILL NOT BACK OFF. It makes me ape ****. I just want to kick back with a drink after, not deal with people. lol

Best thing about DJing is that you feel you can make the world dance and lift their spirits no matter what's happening in their life.Worst thing ,well, I don't really know ,but not getting enough sleep after djing through the night and people expecting you to follow their hours as if sleeping during the day makes you satan's brother-in-law.

Agreed, Penguin. I usually work at night, just period. Not just DJ'ing, but everything else too. I live in FL right now, and being awake in the day time, as hot as it is, is just not an option for me right now.

And yeah, Chique, I can understand that too, but I don't really get so much of the idol status, just being a net DJ. However, there are people who just do not grasp the concept of time slots, and bug me to go on, constantly, when it's someone else's hour, or during someone else's show. Which also kind of makes that DJ feel bad too. Listeners are kind of irritating, but they're also the whole reason for the job.

I absolutely love watching people dancing to the music you are playing/mixing. The only dislike I have is my gradual hearing loss.

My previous headphones did that to me.When I got off the headphones ,the voices around me seemed like a whisper and I was told I was talking louder than usual. It took me some time to figure out that the booming music was pushing up my threshold for sounds. That's when I got the sony headphones.

I always liked watching people dance and go out and bring their friends to a club night on our college campus. Having a large residential population with nothing to do on a Friday/Saturday night and being able to give them something to do they enjoyed was very rewarding. So were the free drinks.

I hated people turning off our music in the main dining hall just because it wasn't always popular top 40 stuff. I once chased a dining hall employee into the mop closet where the switch was and had him lock himself inside. The manager was a good friend though so he unlocked the closet and gave him a stern talking to. It was the funniest thing I've ever seen.

I'd go with stuffabunny on this. I hate it when people turn off my music just because it's not something they are into , but I guess you got to have a gator skin as a Dj and I have only begun. It takes time to develop a dj's instinct .So probably ,they'll come for the same music and my autographs when I get famous ,lol. Apart from that ,I love everything about djing. P.S- That was a funny thing to do Stuffabunny

My favorite part is the music of course, DUHHH!

My least favorite part would be that people can get pretty pissed if I don't have a particular artist/song that they were looking forward to hearing. I mean, I understand why they may be pissed...but still. Not my fault if I don't have every single song in existence!

My favorite part of being a DJ is when my listeners keep on calling me wanting for their songs to be played. With my phone being on the hotlines is an indicator that I do have listeners who loves the songs I played.

What I don’t like is that when I go onboard during graveyard. I feel like I am alone all night long. Nobody’s with me for they are deeply asleep.

Hey, doing a graveyard set can be fun sometimes!

I can understand how it may suck being alone and all, but that's the time of night when you just get to play whatever the heck you feel like. Make sure you are pleased at least.

Non-Pros & Cons

My favorite thing about DJing is waking up in the morning when nobody is around and hopping on the decks. I don't really get any enjoyment out of people dancing to my music, I would rather get feedback or collaborate with another musician.
My least favorite thing is the whole IDOL STATUS. It doesn't really bug me that people who watch you spin think you're something special, there's just something that makes people googly eyed about seeing a person on stage. Its the DJs that let it go to their heads that bug me which around my way is more often than not.
