Finally- got myself some real DJ CD players
....I've been thinking about buying real DJ cd players for years. I
have a PA system that sits in the living room. My experience with mixing has been atomixmp3 for the PC, which is NOTHING like the real thing. So today I finally picked up my first pair of DJ CD players. Pioneer CDJ-100S. I thought about the CDJ-800s, but at $650 a piece it was outta my price range. From a previous post here, I determined that since I'm a beginner and the style of music I like (techno/dance/mainstream club) I dont need all the ridiculous features like scratching, however the looping was very nice. Although I put them on my credit card, dang its one of those things its like "its about time you bought these"... instead of trying to DJ from home stereo CD players (ugh!). Anyway I just spent the past 3 hours just playing around with some of my favorite songs, going over the features. Unfortunately, right now I'm using a recording style mixer that does not have a crossfader but does have prefader listen. Prefader listen would be nice, but I couldnt find any headphones so I wound up beatmatching by watching the lights. I started getting down beat mixing and started adding in some high pass/low pass to kill the bass/highs when needed. I still need much practice, and I'm sure one of those BPM counters would help (or is this cheating haha). So- I need a real DJ mixer, and a good pair of DJ headphones. I also need a higher table, my back was getting sore form bending over. Who knows if I start getting good at this I might start making the $ back I sunk into all this equipment.....but right now I'm just having fun and its great! Thanks for all who gave me advice. |
