Going pay rate for club dj?
Hey guys, (or girls)
I'm normally a mobile dj. A restaurant with a ballroom that I've played at several times has decided that they want a regular Friday Night type of party. Since they know me, they asked if I was interested. They have a sound sytem for there regular Saturday Night Band that plays. All I have to bring is my tables and mixer to plug in there large console. This is very easy for me, but I'm not sure what is a fair rate to ask. Especially if this becomes a regular thing. So I was wondering what's a "standard" rate for a club dj. Remember this is a restaurant and I am not famous (yet). Also this is in the SF Bay Area. Thanks. |

Re: Going pay rate for club dj?
tricky one NonYa. It depends on a few factors I guess. Namely; do you
have a good dj cv? the better your cv, the more you can ask for. Also, is this a big or small gig? Use your instincts to tell you how much you reckon these guys could afford. I've Charged £150GBP for gigs where I knew it was for a fairly big organisation, played for free at underground clubs where I know I'll get exposure and good audience. Also, start by asking for 50 - 75% more than the minimum you'll accept. That way, they can beat you down and you're still happy or they accept your original price. I'd say £30GBP p/h is a reasonable minimum, which is maybe about 60 of your big bucks |

What's a cv? I've got a feeling that I'll be playing for a fairly small group. At least at first. Remember, this is a restaurant. Also, it's not a very busy restaurant. They are fairly new and haven't made a name for themselves yet. The owner seems like he's getting concerned about staying in business so he's thinking of other ways to bring people in. I think the people who will come, will be an older, more "up-ity" type of people. So I don't think I'll be able to really get down. I'm basing this on their menu prices. I'm starting to get a feeling that this won't be any fun. |
