Good hip-hop dance crossover mixes?

Since I'm trying to bridge the gap between hip-hop and dance in my sets, are
there any stand-out remixes of current hip-hop tracks that would serve such
a purpose? And where can I find them?

I've heard a few, but I'm hoping someone can point me to some that I may not
have noticed...

Re: Good hip-hop dance crossover mixes?

I think "hip hop" as a cultural and musical phenomena is morphing it's way
toward dance anyhow. The whole idea of a heavy back beat with a rythmic
pentameter lyric has pretty much run its course. Its got no where left to go
except to dance. JMTCW...

Re: Good hip-hop dance crossover mixes?

are you talking about artists or specific tracks? i know of a few recent
hip-hop songs that have a bpm around 130/135 (today's generic dance bpm)
that would work well in a set.

Re: Good hip-hop dance crossover mixes?

Well... most are between 85 and 95 bpm...
However, the Ultimix and Funky Mix look very good. Especially Funky Mix. The
only drawback I see is that the songs are released slower on their services.
I guess to give the originals time to gain an audience.

Plus... I've been playing a few high schools and junior highs and they want
to hear rap, but most of the rap available isn't appropriate (read: I will
not get paid by the sponser if I play it). I mean... why does Busta have to
release a song called "Light Your Ass on Fire" or Youngbloodz release
"Damn!" when they know that their prime audience are school kids? I can't
play them... I got told to cut off Sean Paul's "Like Glue" at one high
school cause the kids were starting to hump... Oh how I wish I was working
in a club...

And I'd like to liven it up a bit, but all the dance stuff doesn't interest
the kids. Maybe I could find a happy medium... At least to keep them dancing
apart...

I thought punk was making a good play to be the next pop thing. They had a
lot of strong artists come out all at once. Maybe it still could. But I
don't see as strong a following for "Punk Rock 101". They need one more
artist to keep the interest going until either a consolidated punk-tour or
one of the fore-runners can release another album. It's about time for
another from the Distillers...

But with a new album from Missy due out soon and Outkast's verry different
dual-album, not to mention the ragga-fever being pushed by Sean Paul, it
looks like pop-hop's staying a bit longer. Although I have to say the
dancehall-ragga stuff at least interests me.
