Gooseneck Microphones?

I'm new the the DJ scene, just looking to do it for fun at parties.
I'll be using a laptop with MP3s, an outboard mixer, amp, etc. The
one thing I still haven't figured out is what type of microphone to
get.

I'd prefer to get a gooseneck mic with an XLR connector that I can
plug straight into my mixer. The only experience I've had is with an
inexpensive dynamic mic. It works ok, but any vibrations on the mixer
travel up the mic and can be heard. Also, I'm wondering if there are
better options to use.

When choosing a mic, there were a few questions that I had:

Is either a dynamic or a condenser mic preferable for this situation?

What's the best response pattern for DJ'ing - cardoid or hypercardoid?

Does a shock mount help reduce extraneous noise, and can it be used
going straight into the console?

If anyone has any good quality, reasonably priced gooseneck mics, they
could recommend I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!

Mark

Re: Gooseneck Microphones?

Think Shure SM58 or PG58 and you will never have to upgrade.

The SM58 is an industry standard for vocals and is made of alloy. The PG58
is "similar" tho somewhat cheaper.

Re: Gooseneck Microphones?

I have to agree with the SM58. Lok for sales and you can get them around
100 bucks new. eBay is even cheaper.
And Shure makes goosenecks that will directly connect to your mixer. Look
for the G12-CN and G18-CN.
With the gooseneck, you can plug any mic in. Start cheap and move up.
