Halloween Tracks

I'm trying to get past the Monster Mash for halloween-themed tracks
for a house party. Any suggestions? Of course I'll be bringing
Michael Jackson's "Thriller" along in the crate, the Wu-Tang's 36
chambers is definitely apropos, and my personal faves Tino Corp.
blessed us with a Halloween theme breakbeat record last year, but I'm
trying to think of some other well-known/lesser known "spooky" tracks.
Any halloween-type tracks or playlist suggestions would be mighty
useful.

Cheers,

Kraft, The Mad Scientist

Re: Halloween Tracks

Just been doing the same thing for a party and decided to do a cheesy
cd with some tv theme tunes and stuff and a soundtrack cd so here's
what I got so far:-

Cheesy CD.
Beetlejuice Theme
Jan Keizer-Love Potion Number Nine
Michael Jackson - Thriller
Monster Mash
TV Theme Rent A Ghost
TV Theme - Scooby-Doo
TV Theme - The Munsters (Halloween Mix)
Time Warp
TV Theme - Trap Door
TV Theme - Casper The Friendly Ghost
TV Theme - The Adams Family
Werewolves of London
And Not forgetting Ghostbusters (forgot how good this tune is!)

Horror Film Scores
Psyco
Children Of The Corn
Amityville Horror
Candyman
Evil Dead
Excorcist
Twilight Zone
Blair Witch
Nightmare On Elm Street
Friday 13th
Phanton Of The Opera
Silence Of The Lambs

Cause of the clasical nature of these Horror scores there are a lot of
trace remixes of these songs so you should be able get your hands of a
few of them although when remixed many of these then end up under the
cheesy header!!
There are quite a few punk covers of them which sound better than the
remixes.

Not sure if I'll use all of em but its a start, still 2 weeks to go!

Re: Halloween Tracks

Thanks for all the great submissions! I've already got some great
ideas. Reminding me of Psycho was nice, because I have an LP of
Bernard Hermann's Hitchcock Scores! And of course I totally forgot
about Portishead - who's spookier? Anything Theremin!

I'm working on getting up to speed with Traktor to see if I can't mix
in some of those other suggestions from digital sources. My budget is
running thin after ordering a new amp when my current spit up white
smoke after hauling it around in a car all day.

I hope we can keep this topic up, because I think it would be
constructive for all our parties. A real mind-meld. Halloween is
always the best because it's pagan! No dumb omnipotent uber-being to
bow to, just a bunch of evil spirits to chase away. Have fun and keep
it comin'.

Re: Halloween Tracks

A cautionary tale - I once attended a halloween party hosted by a local
radio DJ, One Phil Simmons of Kestrel FM. He proceeded to play the night on
a collection of tracks with any slight reference to halloween and witchcraft
Including such non classics as Devil WOman by Cliff Ricahrd. Whilst it spoke
volumes about the homework he had done by 9pm we were planing a witch
burning of our own.

Moral - Don't overdo it to be smart, you will really piss your audience
off...........

I feel you on that one. A good point to be understood for any
holiday/theme DJ party. I understand that the 'high-concept' approach
to DJ'ing is difficult at best, impossible most of the time. I'm just
trying to think of songs that set the mood, while still being
danceable and relatively well-known (though the more danceable, the
less well-known it's allowed to be). Hence I'm looking for stuff with
heavy moog-theremin vibes, or really dark backbeats, or spooky vocals
- not so much stuff that says "Halloween - let's go trick or treating"
as much as stuff that says "I'm high on E and a little paranoid and
this music is making me want to scream and run to the safety of my
bed, but I'm frozen, dancing in terror" if you get my drift. I think
Michael Jackson's thriller is about as close to a holiday theme anthem
I'll be getting (though the scratch/sample possibilities of the Psycho
theme are rather compelling). I think I'm going to open the set with
some spacey, spooky, downtempo dub, into some english art-beat, and
then into some hard hip-hop and finally peaking at around a disco
tempo for MJ and then switching to my old-school hip-hop mix after a
break (since I'll be in my warmup suit, pumas and baseball cap for the
occassion). Keep the comments coming!

Re: Halloween Tracks

Anji,

Next time you copy another DJ's music list, you might want to give credit.
Your list is virtually word for word taken from _A Sound Investment_

http://www.asoundinvestment.com/hallowee.htm. This list was created and has
been live for over 5 years.

Re: Halloween Tracks

I would not have thought anyone would have wanted to have been associated
with that 'overkill' list - known to most as '56 tracks to clear your
dancefloor'.

Personally, whilst some are just about scrapeable, I'd plumit for tracks
like:>

2 Unlimited - "Twilight Zone"
Discotex - I can cast a spell
Sonique - I put a spell on you
Kernkraft 400 - Zombie Nation
Brainbug 'Nightmare'

Remember they need to be DANCEFLOOR friendly not RADIO friendly - Unless of
course you are happy playing such nastys like
Ozzy Osbourne "Bark at the moon"
R Dean Taylor - "Theres a ghost in my house"

Perhaps a list of 'DANCEFLOOR FRIENDLY HALLOWEEN TRACKS is in order

Re: Halloween Tracks

never said it was my list...
and as i said over the top..if you want me to embarass the person that made
the playlist ... thats another matter cos i feel thats what is is.. an
embarrasment, but thats my opinion...just mine, you'll probably disagree but
then thats your opinion and you free to use it.

got it from here
though..................http://djfixxx.freeyellow.com/DJGUIDE3.htm
Not The Address you mentioned...
incidentally it was on this newsgroup it was gleamed under dj guide...check
it for yourself'..it's still live
never needed to use someone elses playlist , but will give you some pointers
if you really need them to update the list including some mastermix remixes
of some of the songs that make them more user friendly. you may find them on
the net if you know the right places..

personally i havent heard most of the tracks and if i haven't heard them my
customers certainly haven't ...

incidentally issue 176 cd 1 track 1 still packs the dancefloor on the
mastermix side.....good for a toilet break or a wander to the bar ..lol

best wishes

anji
