Helpme Peavey PV 260 Amp
I am new to the speaker/amp thing, so pardon my stupidity.
I recently purchased a Peavey PV 260 Amp and two Squirer SQ12 Speakers. The specs on the amp are: Output Power 4 ohms 130 W RMS - 8 ohms 100 W RMS on the speakers: -Power Handling: 80 Watts (E.I.A. RS-426), 160 Watts (Program), 320 Watts (Peak). -Impedence: 8 Ohm First of all, I believe I will be running using the 8 ohms setting as I will sending output "A" of the amp to one speaker, and output "B" to the other speaker. Do I understand this correctly, or am I completely off? Does that mean I will be sending 100 watts of power to each speaker which should be 160 watts? If that is the case, will this cause much of a problem as I have read that you should have double the amp output of the speaker? Also, on the back of the amp, there is an Input Sensitivity setting that runs from 0 - 10, where most likely should I have this set based on the above specs. Note: all connections or the 1/4" jack Thanks in advance for any help I can get. |

What is the rest of your setup? Is there just a mixer, going straight into the amp? Or, is there another gain stage between? EQ, compressor, etc..... ---------------------------------- Steve McQ |

When that occurs, the speakers simply reproduce the distortion. Do it long enough, and the speakers can be damaged. That amp appears to have some kind of built-in limiter. So, it may not get too over stressed. The thing most folks don't realize, is you can blow speakers with an under powered amp. > I have a two channel mixer running to the amp > Doesn't tell me much. What brand/model mixer? The input sensitivity setting is used to match the source to the amp. Most consumer audio, and lots of low-end DJ gear operates at a level of -10db. Pro gear runs at +4db. Generally, if the output connectors on the mixer are RCA jacks, it's -10. I couldn't find a good spec sheet for the amp you have, on the net. Looks like Peavey discontinued it. Once again, how is the "input sensitivity" labeled? Is it "0 through 10", or zero to "minus" 10 ? That particular setting has nothing to do with your speakers, and everything to do with the mixer/pre-amp. -- Steve McQ |
