I think it could be for people who appreciate it as well, and hell maybe some people would like to get into it and want to look into it so they know what to do. I'm into music, but don't own tables, DJ'd for 3 months but that was it. I would definitely do it again if I could.......

I'm new here and I do agree with the confunsion. Also it doesnt seem that many people are posting topics or replies.
Why dont everyone who reads this send a load of messages to existing users and promt them to get using the boards. Also get onto other stuff and get people to join. I like it when I come to a fairly empty forum cos you can watch it grow and become one of the original members but that only happens if there are a few determined people out there to push the forum on. IM GAME. Get wid it.

I'm not a Pro-DJ, let's call it semi-pro. As this site is called a forum so I guess it's all about discussion thing dj-related. The structure of the boards reflects it.
Anyway, I like to help out.

I am a GOD!
There is no better dj in my locality. I have rocked every spare room from upstairs to downstairs, and the crowd (well, the missus) LOVE ME - I rule! I have distributed nearly twenty mix tapes to the locals, and thats about it. I will never become a pro-DJ. And I don't care! I love house music. I love gear, technique etc and get better all the time. Doesn't mean my contribution to the forum is any less. And the amount of posts on here is picking up - so stick wid it!!!!!!!! |

Haha.
I guess most performing artists in this industry start with a profound interest in music. That's what this site is actually about, sharing the love for music and getting involved into discussions over gear and such. I'm just a party-animal who just happens to get a lot of free drinks now and then. It's like in the old days: getting paid in goods. Cheerio

I would call myself a "semi-professionall". I cannot live off of DJing (and I wouldn't want to either...), but I am making some money with it and enjoying what I do.
I started with student parties, but I am currently trying to get more into "serious" DJing (electronic music, preferably breakbeats). |

As a DJ i work at peoples private parties where im forced to play charts.
At home i enjoy mixing commercial trance, progressive trance, hard trance and commercial house. Commercial house means every house track which comes to my ears in the clubs and listed in the DJ top 100. That's it ![]()

The closest I have come to playing a Dj was at a friend's birthday party.I just played the music I thought people would enjoy listening and dancing to.I don't have any experience of professional deejaying ,but would love to learn what I can on this forum.

am I a DJ?
You got my attention with your opening question....and it made me ponder whether or not the spinning type DJs respect or acknowledge those of us that don't. I've been a mobile DJ for 11 years doing private parties, mostly weddings. Since this business is Friday Saturday Sunday, there isn't much chance this will ever become full time. It compliments my full time job as a public school music teacher.
I have always said that I respect the time it takes to practice being a spinning type DJ and that I think it is a special type of artistry to any one in which the subject comes up but your question and some of the responses made me think that those of us that play radio hits at parties aren't respected by the group of you that spin. Am I a DJ if I don't spin? It would be hard to answer the opening question if you do not.... Frankly I see three groups: Radio DJs - people who are on the air perswonalities that do not have to set up their own equipment nor need the talent to pick hits for a changing crowd of people every job. Radio Play mobile DJs - People who become Master of Ceremonies at an event mostly weddings, work with the client to provide the correct atmosphere and lead people through the activites chosen. Spinning DJs - True artists with their concentration on beat matching, looping, scratching to make mostly club type dance events happen. Hardly any Master of Ceremonies duty but a greater pressure to fill the dance floor. I invite your comments. DJ Dave Dance Yer Socks Off Mobile DJ Service P.S. I haven't been on the forums for quite awhile and the recent emails to my inbox prompted me to write in again. |
