Importance of Mixin,Scratchin,Blendin ect...

I started DJn about a year ago and in teh past year i think i learned
alot. The only problems i get is from other DJs in the area who complain
about my mixin, scratchin, ect. I am still learning in that field.
However when i do parties, clubs, the ppl in the crowd love the way i
spin cuz i keep the floor jammin. But then i still get heat from the
other DJs. Should I just ignore the DJs and keep practicin while makin
the crowds jump or should i take them serious. Sometimes I feel they are
trying to give me heat cuz they know i am a top contender.Reason this is
bothering me is cuz we usually have 3 DJs in a club at a time cuz there
isnt enuff clubs in town. ANd cuz these DJs are givin me the heat they
arent lettin me get my exposure due to their personal issues with me.
Any advice from the seasoned vets would be most appreciative. I wanna
get this DJ thing down solid cuz there isnt any major players out where
i am and i wanna be the first. Thanks in advance

Well, for one thing, you don't play music for DJ's, and I can't stand any
that do. If the floor is crowded and the place is jumping, that's all you
should be concerned with.

Bang on. I've seen technically good DJ's (i.e. the can scratch till the
sun comes up) that can't get anyone on the dancefloor. that isn't what
they are supposed to do. The DJ is supposed to get everyone dancin.

It's probably more down to sour grapes on their part - after all YOU are the
DJ who's working - not them!

Everyone who has replied to you so far is dead right IMHO - if you really
did suck, then why is your floor rammed and buzzin' ?

I've taken a lot of heat from wannabe DJs for loads of things - from
speaking on the mike to using vinyl AND CD (as opposed to just vinyl). Not
forgetting "pitch this one up to +8 mate, it'll sound better and the
place'll be jumpin'!" (as I look out onto a rammed, jumpin' dancefloor!).
FFS!

Whenever you're in a priviledged position there are always people who will
knock what you're doing. Some of the criticism will be justified sometimes.
Listening to your critics doesn't necessarily mean taking any notice of
them!

The only person you need to "take serious" is the guy who signs the
paycheck.

Not their job to give you exposure. What makes you think it is?

Re: Importance of Mixin,Scratchin,Blendin ect...

I didnt mean to say that its the DJs job to give me exposure. However
when a club owner lets the other DJs decide who performs and who doesnt,
of course they are gonna go with favoritism. The only ppl i take serious
are those who keep coming back and getting on the dancefloor. Im hopin a
big break comes soon. The problem here is that my town is stuck between
two cities in Florida, but promoters for one reason or the other look
over us. And when we do get a promoter to notice that we have room for a
show, they bring an out of town DJ. There has to be somethin i can do to
make ppl realize im serious and i can compete with the rest!
