What in your opinion is the best dj-ng/mixing software out there?
I'm looking for something that plays two tracks, maybe more, with bpm dtetection, pitch control, punch-in, looping, programming sample playback (like fx), equalizer (preferrably able to kill the frequency), scratching, other effects (like flanger, reverb, chorus, etc) that can be done while playing. And either with a recording feature or directions on how to record through other software. I'm sure there's other features that I may like, but I'm sure if there's a program out there that you guys have been messing with for a while then there must be a good reason for it. So let me hear it. -kos |

Embracing technology is central to the survival of dance music as far as I can see. What would have happened if Frankie Knuckles or Ron Hardy had said: "No, I'm not going to use a drum machine and re-edit these old soul tracks. I'll stick with the purist approach of playing pre-recorded vinyl". My advice is don't knock it until you've tried it. Traktor certainly doesn't enhance the DJ's ability / musicality - if you're shit, you'll still sound shit with Traktor - it just allows you to do more (the next version will allow you to sync with cubase and reason so you can remix trax much better live, for example) for your audience. In my experience (as a vinyl DJ for 15 years now dabbling in what new technology has to offer), the dancers don't give a toss what you play with as long as it sounds good and keeps them on the floor. |

Re: looking for...
Looks like you mis-read my post...
I wasn't looking for something to replace me... just my console. Preferrably for recording at home. However, I do find programs like Mixmeister good for making extended mixes and mega-mixes. As for the dj-ing element... It's my personal belief that dj's can't be replaced. Sure they can try with automated software (and most clubs/sponsers probably do, or will, because it saves them money), but the personality of the dj is what's important. Unless you work for someone who tells you what to play and when, then you're making the decisions. And if they ask you to play the latest Britney Spears, you don't have to play the original version <eg>, just make a nice dub version. DJs have a little more exposure to the specific genres they are experienced in, and know which songs they like and can get the crowd into. I find songs all the time that I think are cool, but no one in my area has heard. Some of the fun is taking a rather unknown song (maybe spicing it up a bit) and throwing it in among a few pop songs and making it work. -kos "Mr T" <fuck-spam-spec@iol.ie> wrote in message news:bmjjfn$1e5$1@kermit.esat.net... > it sounds like you dont want to bother mixing at all, just let the computer > do it all. > wheres the DJ in all of this new technology????????? > > > > What in your opinion is the best dj-ng/mixing software out there? > > > > I'm looking for something that plays two tracks, maybe more, with bpm > > dtetection, pitch control, punch-in, looping, programming sample playback > > (like fx), equalizer (preferrably able to kill the frequency), scratching, > > other effects (like flanger, reverb, chorus, etc) that can be done while > > playing. Download the free demo and find out about the major upgrade release due out in November from http://www.native-instruments.com/traktor25.info |
