The Mackie SRM450 basically made powered speakers all the rage about five years
ago, due to their light weight (about 40 lbs), good bass from a 12" speaker,
and convenience (no heavy amp to carry separately and set-up).

In my opinion, the RCF ART300A (which is the prototype of the Mackie SRM450) is
a better speaker. Less watts to the horn (60 vs 100) for smoother, less harsh
highs. I believe RCF is redoing their ART series right now.

Anyway, the SRM450 is still a solid powered speaker, even after all these years
and countless others that have come along. But if you're in the market, I'd
recommend checking-out the FBT MAXX4A and EV SXA250 or SXA360. (The EV 360 is
expensive- about $1000 each- but packs a powerful punch.)

Re: Mackie SRM450's ?

To add to Bobster 123 if you blow one, you can run a paralell cable from the
good one to the Blown one and still run 2 Speakers. I have powered to of the
Biggest Hotels in D.C. with these with NO problem. Also the Bass never POPS
when you push them.
These Are Rock Solid
They are so popular now I've seem them go separatley for $350 each on
Ebay... I guess the markets flooded with them.

I did that last year, paired with some 1501's. It can fill almost any hall
you are going to play in.
