Battery dying should be no problem with pro-equipment - usually there is a monitor display on both the mic and the receiver so you have a good chance to react on a low-level-battery. Indeed I don't really need a wireless mic, when I'm doing jobs in clubs, because I usually do not have to leave my place behind the decks - so why use a wireless instead of a cable. A moderator may have more valuable use out of this, because he has to go around and move everywhere, while talking to the audience. On the other hand the risk of acoustic feedbacks is higher, as the transmitter ist not limited by a cable and can be carried anywhere - especially in front of the loudspeakers - a bad job if there's no professional eq to cut the dangerous frequencies.
If you are considering buying a wireless, I would recommend a uhf-system as the vhf-frequencies get more and more overloaded with garbage and often react bad on cellphones. |

With good Equipment there should be no problem.
At our rental company we are using wireless microphones from Omnitronic (because they are originally Sennheiser) - cheap and very good. E.g.: Omnitronic Mic Omnitronic Receiver |
