Mixer Advice
Hi,
I am a little out of touch with DJ equipment, having not done any DJing since the early nineties. I was wondering if anyone could offer some advice on some cool mixers, with some equally cool features, as well as advising on those to stay clear of? Thanks in advance, Nick. |

re: Mixer Advice
Pioneer DJM500 and DJM600 are the standard around here. Tascam has a
cloan of the DJM series which i nice and they are a top of the line company. If your looking for a cheap reasonable mixer, then check out the behringer djx700 for $200 bux with effects is very reasonable..... And it closely emulates the Pioneer series....If your looking for scratch mixers Pioneer came out with a DJM909 and 303 which look very nice. --------------\/\/---------------------------------------------------- Liquid Digital Online - Online Planet of Beatz http://liquiddigitalonline.com Djs get heard... Re: Mixer Advice
Hi thanks for the advice. Someone recently mentioned to me that Roland have
a pretty nice mixer out for around the same price as the DJM600 - is one to consider? I couldnt find anything on Roland mixers that was useful. Thanks again, Nick. Re: Mixer Advice
Hi sorry it took me so long to reply.
I am very much a progressive/tribal/electro kinda guy, preferring mixers with features for doing blending. I wont be mixing banging techno or hip hop or be scratching (I think thats what the kill switches are for arent they?). I am out of touch when it comes to effects. So far, I have the following mixers in mind, but I am still finding it difficult to choose: Pioneer DJM600 Rane Empath Allen & Heath Xone 62 A friend mentioned the Xone 464, but I am not sure what extras I would need on this over the Xone 62, for a home DJ. Even if I went and did a night with my own equipment, I am thinking the likes of any of the above mixers would suffice? Thanks for any advice, Nick. Re: Mixer Advice
Hi Ulrich,
Thanks for your advice. It seems the DJM600 reviews I have read arent quite as real as they claim then? I guess one mans opinion is different to anothers, so a review is just a subjective opinion. I have dropped the DJM600 now, and its between the Rane and the Allen Heath. I am swaying towards the Allen Heath just because I have read "great" reviews in various magazines over the months, as well as on the internet but its still difficult to choose. Would both the Rane and the Allen Heath be perfect for a blending style of mixing, for progressive/tribal/electro? Thanks for your help. Nick. My mixing style is all about, blending, and layers; still, I prefer battle mixers, for their simplicity. As long as the x-fader, and channel fader slopes are adjustable, you should have no trouble with a mixing oriented mixing style. If I was mixer shopping, I'd have to give the A&H 02 a look. I like the three band EQ. I find two bands to be two few, and four, such as on the A&H 62, and my old Rane MP22 too many. Though, I used to get a mildly amusing, flange like sound by cranking the two mid EQs in opposite directions. Myself, I'd go with the Rane. Rane have been very good to me. I also use a Rane Graphic EQ, and Active X-over. Rane HQ is just 1000 miles up the Pacific coast from me; I can ring tech support toll free, any time I want. Judging from your BT news server, you might want to buy from UK based A&H. -- Ulrich DoD#732 www.dj-ulrich.com adelphia email addy is never checked, please use URL above. |

Re: Mixer Advice
Hi Ulrich, thanks for getting back. I appreciate your time in replying. I
weighed up the pros/cons and ended up going for the Xone 62 in the end, partly because they are in the UK which is definitely helpful. I like the Rane as much as I like the AH, though this is based on nothing other than what I have read. I have orderd my full kit today, so hopefully by the week end I will have the mixer and I can let you know how I get on. I hear what you are saying about the number of dials on the EQ, but having not used one at all before, maybe that wont cause me too much of a problem. Warm regards, Nick.
