Mixer with three inputs
I'm new to mixing and about to purchase my first dual cd player
(Numark CDN22) and mixer (Numark DM950). Before I get the mixer though, I'd like to ask if there are 'beginner' ones available with three phono inputs. I want to hook the dual CD player up and mix between them, but as the system will be near my computer (which contains a lot of MP3s) is it possible to get one which I could possibly mix some of these into as well? If not, then how can I connect my computer and the mixer outputs to the same hifi with only 1 external phono connector on the back? Is there a sort of double adaptor available or even a way of passing the computer feed through the mixer without necassarily having the ability to mix in computer stuff? TIA |

You will have to spend a little more money. If you want to stick with Numark then take a look at the DM300X or DM3001X. They have three inputs and also the much more desireable 3 band eq on each channel instead of just two bands. Go to numark.com and you'll see everything they are now selling.. in addition there are a lot of models that aren't current anymore but can still be purchased new in the box if you look around. It is possible to find some deals. The other way you can do it is, many mixers have switches so you can switch each channel to multiple inputs. You can then use those extra inputs for the computer. Not an ideal situation but it can work. However the DM950, according to web sites I'm looking at, seems to only have two phono inputs (which are for turntables only, so you will not be using them), and two line inputs (what you need for CD and for your pc). So you are out of luck. You need to find a different mixer... -Ben -Ben |

Re: Mixer with three inputs
Ben answered your questions pretty well but I thought I'd mention that you
can't plug a CD player or other *line level* audio sources into a *phono input*. The out from a phono boosts the low end and amplifies the signal differently. The phono input on a mixer then levels the low end back out to a normal sound. Also, you really will want to get a good sound system to run the mixer into. A home stereo amplifier is not adequate to the task and home stereo speakers are even more inferior. Get a decent mixer and then get a set of studio reference monitors (you can get a good pair for $200 to $500). (the reason is because you want to hear how the sounds you're making *actually* sound. home hi-fi systems are designed to make the recordings you play on them sound "better", so they color the sound with everything from Dolby noise reduction, to bass boost and digital EQ presets and the speakers are also designed to "improve" the sound. studio reference monitors and good mixers are designed to be completely "sonically transparent" with no coloration of the sound. so if you're designing your sets based on how they sound at home on your stereo then you go out and play that set in a club or at a party with a good system you're going to find it all sounds a lot different than you planned and probably not very good) -- |O/|.+.|O/| "Support your local DJ." ~DJ Stash1 http://www.cafeshops.com/allgoodtime "Stevie1308808305" <stevie1308808305@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:bc1d7327.0401161002.8a2a0ad@posting.google.co m... |
