Mixing Software

I used to do a lot of mixing on decks a few years ago until my financial
situation meant that I could no longer afford the continual purchasing of
records. So I gave it up.

However, I quite fancy getting back into it, but I thought of using PC based
mixing software to save money. What is the best software for mixing records
together (esp. techno)? Is MixMeister Pro 5.0.2 any good? What sort of spec
should my PC be in order to do this?

Also, what are the best resources for downloading tunes nowadays?
Preferrably full 5-6 minute versions of current techno and house tracks?

TIA.

Re: Mixing Software

Buy a PC „„ Good Spec [2GHz/512Mb/80GB/Augigy]+connect it to PA

Get Broadband „„ Load WinMX >> Download Traktor DJ 2.3

then use WinMX to download all the dance tracks you've ever heard of and
practice with TraktorDJ - It'll do everything that decks can do + much much
more {bring on the luddites... lol}....

..... this is just theoretical and should not be attempted due to it's
illegal and probably immoral implications....

Re: Mixing Software

Yeah I agree I think that Tracktor DJ is one of the better ones out there.
Although be warned it will never feel the same as having a mixer in front of
you and 2 decks.

Anyone seen the new Technics Cd mixers? All I can say is "I WANT ONE!!" "

normal decks.

Re: Mixing Software

Drooool...... if only Santa would stretch to a pair of them. Quite
stunning I'll agree [To be honest it looks like a transitional
'improvisation' between analogue hand skills and digital versatility (ie
having several thousand tracks on call instantly), a sort of 'keep 'em all
happy'- play it safe from our Japanese friends at technics - correct me if
I'm wrong....... but I bet it loops, samples, and beatsyncs/mp3 (woah) just
like a PC underneath - and just uses nicely the weighted platters (doo-bop)
for a manual control so as to not scare off the 'purist guys - who just
don't do computer geeks man'] - each to there own - it's about people
dancing to "records" at the end of the day/night - a dj (god was never one)
just plays the records - personally I like to scramble some brains on the
dancefloor but that's another story.

I've used a bunch of MP3 mixing apps, and by far the easiest one to
get started with was MixMeister. They have a new express version
which lets you just drag songs into the playlist, and it beatmixes
them together really well plus it sounds super smooth. You can get a
free trial at www.mixmeister.com.
