My sole business is running my mobile DJ operation. Lately I've been
getting some generic requests for certain styles of music and I'm
finding that I'm at a loss for songs. I've been doing weddings full
time for over a year now and am just running into this issue.

The styles that people have been asking for are:
Waltzes (slow and upbeat)
Cha Cha
Tango
Fox Trot
Salsa
Merengue

Can anyone share some good songs to turn to when asked to play in
these respective genres? I could really use some advice.

3.4.19.1. Thomas Power's Ballroom Music List by Type with Tempo

In service to a request by a friend in this newsgroup (as well as to a
long-standing intention of mine), I have finally committed my dance music
catalog to an ASCII file, and organized it somewhat. I figured some of the
rest of you might be interested as well. This is by no means an exhaustive
list of what is available, but it represents a couple of years of dedicated
music acquisition.

The great majority of this music is available "over-the-counter" as opposed
to strict tempo imported ballroom discs, which often must be mail ordered.
Unfortunately, to have a reasonably complete collection, it is almost
impossible to avoid mail-ordered discs entirely. My mail ordered discs have
all come from Jack/Judy Hughes (Disc Tec Dance Records (302)737-7869 ) and
these discs are denoted with a "*" at the end of their description.

The "CD?" indication means that I do not have the selection on CD and do not
know whether or not it is available on CD. With the exception of albums with
this indication (and 45rpm singles), all the music is available on CD
format. Albums denoted "+" are my particular favorites either because the
stuff on them is so good (like HONY) or because there is so much usable
stuff on them (like ITDM.)

All the sources (albums and singles) are listed below in alphabetical order
by 4-letter abbreviation, and are referred to in the song lists by this
4-letter abbreviation as well as by artist. In the song lists, the songs are
arranged (within each dance category) by tempo, from slowest to fastest. The
tempo appears to the left of each entry and is in measures per minute. Many
songs have intros which are sometimes long enough to require some editing
for use in ballroom dance. Songs with intros are indicated with "(I)"
directly after the title.
