Don't you want to hold out for the new Technics CD decks?

I'm very happy with my CDJ1000s (Mark 1) but have no experience of the
others. I do fancy the Technics though...

Seeing them in a showcase at PLASA, I must admit that they looked
really cool; seeing them being used the one thing that immediatey
struck me was the fingerprinting all over the shiny top surface

Gotta pair of mk 1's myself and I wouldn't be without them, although
I've also got cmx5000's and 3000's.

Would've been nice if Pioneer had got he mk 2's to do MP3s - they
missed an opportunity there

cheers

If only it were that simple (it isn't ;-)

The Pioneer has the upper hand where it comes to drive mechanics (oil
suspended drive can take quite a beating). The Denon has the upper hand
where it comes to features BUT it does have an interface you can get lost in
(esp. if you don't read the manual).

You can do more with the S5000 but the CDJ-1000MKII has a friendlier
interface. SO: There is no winner. Both are excellent units. Denon has done
a good job of finally closing the gap (and about time too!!!).

BTW: Also consider the new Numar in your list. I'm totally fond of the
Axis-8 (for home use) because of it's interaction between loops/bop/effects
and the built-in beatkeeper (you have to see a demo, done by someone who
knows his shit to find out the HUGE advantages of this method). The Axis-9
is an extension on the Axis-8 (touch sensitive jog) BUT for those who only
use the scratch effect for the occasional backspin... The Axis-8 has more
than enough for your needs. Downside: The Numark players don't have an oil
suspended drive like Pioneer uses. So if the unit has to withstand a lot of
beating, the Pioneer is the better option.

BTW: For those who really (think they) need the scratch feature: Numark,
like Technics, too comes with a full sized platter CD deck. Let's hope it
has the features of the Axis-8/9 ;-) This new CD Deck is based on the TTX1
(but fortunately lacks it's tone-arm ;-)

Re: Pioneer CDJ1000MKII VS Denon DN-S5000

Summed up very well Andre!

If the interface of th DN-S5000 is a little scary, consider the DN-S3000

Best bet is to play them both and make up your own mind. Find a dealer who
knows how to drive them both but don't let their personal opinion sway you
too much. The preference of one over the other is a very personal thing. On
paper the Denon wins though, and I love the spinning platter and A-B
loop/splice with edit function too.
