Question for those who use powered speakers (JBL, Mackie, etc.)

How do you factor out the logistics of having enough audio cord (1/4", XLR,
etc.) to get from your DJ set to your speakers, along with having enough
electrical cord to get power from the nearest available outlet(s). I'm
planning to purchase an extra set of speakers to compliment my current set of
four (non-powered) and just wanted to see how you deal w/ the day-in, day-out
usage of powered speakers.

Re: Question for those who use powered speakers (JBL, Mackie, etc.)

One short set for a standard "next to the table" type set up. And a set of
long leads for larger "on Stage" gigs.Pretty simple really. We have just
added Eons to our rigs. Can't see too many problems at this stage.

Re: Question for those who use powered speakers (JBL, Mackie, etc.)

I have two extension cords specifically for my EONs. I haev also learned to
try and run my rig off a different circuit than the two EONs, because with
all three on one outlet there is some major current going through there.

Re: Question for those who use powered speakers (JBL, Mackie, etc.)

Interesting point. I assume you keep your mxr, decks,cd's in the same circuit
tho and have lighting on the other circuit.

I don't use lighting, but if I did it would be on a different circuit.

Re: Question for those who use powered speakers (JBL, Mackie, etc.)

Oh ok, and you dint get nasty pops and click using different circuits? I
was under the impression that all audio should be kept on the same circuit.
Perhaps its an old wives tale and someone here could expand on it.

Re: Question for those who use powered speakers (JBL, Mackie, etc.)

I am not the best when it comes to wiring and electrical. I know that I once
used a single extension cord with three outlets on it, one for my booth, and
the two EONs in the other outlets. Anytime I moved the cord or tried to mess
with the plugs I would get real bad pops and even clip my speakers. Now I
make sure they are always plugged into different outlets.

Re: Question for those who use powered speakers (JBL, Mackie, etc.)

They make a 6" Pigtail cord (Computer Power Cord) that you can plug into any
extension cord any length. So now you don't have to buy a 25' Computer power
cord for the mackies.
Next buy an Audio snake cable (XLR male to RCA male) 8 color coded cables.
Split them up they're 16' long. Now you have four sets. I've sold 2 sets on
ebay.

Then get a nice box to store it all in something like this
