question (remixes)

I am looking into how remixes are done. I have yet to find a "how to" site
on the web. I am getting the impression that to remix a song, you need to
get a hold of the original studio tracks.

I am sorry if this is not the forum for this question, I am having trouble
finding that as well.

Thx,

J

Usually. Unless you can get hold of an acappella. Or work with samples
from the original track (not easy).

So I could (if I wasn't terribly concerned about quality) just run the song
through a few different filters until I isolated the sample I was looking
for?

When DJs do it (like in rap), they sample a section of the whole song,
right? A particular bass and drum riff they can loop and add music too,
something like that?

I finally found this. I am not currently using Cakewalk, but I think the
principles are the same.

Hope this helps some other lost soul.

Re: question (remixes)

There are a lot of programs you can use. Though you can not remove vocals
from a track with 100% success. Mixmeister, Cool Edit, and sound forge are
a couple of well recognised remix wares.

Sure.

But what I actually meant was that, where possible, you can try to sample
parts of the song where the samples would be usable without having to do
a lot of extra work - for example if there's a breakdown where most of the
backing drops out.
