Listen to a few Dub records and you fill hear that they most of the times
are slower or deeper versions of the original...

Re: Record Help

A dub is a slight offset instrumental of the song
On most 12" records there are at least 5 versions of the song. Regular
version, Radio Mix, Accaplla, House and Dub
Alot have more or less and then some more like Hurley's House version or
Basement Boys Remix,
Alot of 12" records have a version not even on the CD or Maxi-CD for
instance Simple Pleasure released a song that
sucked on the CD but the Radio release was from a Promo 12" and much Better.
This happens alot less now
but used to happen quite often in the mid 90's. Record shows are a great
place to find these treasures.

Re: Record Help

I am an older DJ and these guys and others were the pioneers in remixing. My
all time fav remix is Roberta Flack's Uh Oh Look out here it comes by
Hurley. Probably the best remix ever totally out of context of the original
song.

Re: Record Help

Also the coolest thing to do back then (mid 90's) was to take the accapella
of one song and mix it with the dub of another song. So you're playing this
song and then segue to another song everyone knows because they know the
beat, but suddenly the lyrics are different everyone freaks for a second
then their like hmm that's cool. Good example is Mark Morrison's Return of
the Mack Dub with Shaggy's It wasn't me lyrics. Try it if you can.

Re: Record Help

To add to supretopcheckerberry post look for Chicago House styles of music.
