MUSEUM OF MAKING MUSIC SHOWCASES TURNTABLE DOCUMENTARY

On Thursday, August 19 at 7 PM, the Museum of Making Music hosts the
screening of "Scratch," a recent documentary that tracks the arrival
of the DJ as a bona fide musician. The film focuses on the techniques
and innovators of this modern musical art form.

Join local DJ and turntable instructor Daeman Connolly as he leads an
audience through the history of the DJ subculture. Attendees will
learn about beat juggling, scratching, and other techniques and are
invited to do some scratching of their own on the Museum's turntables
and mixer following the film.

Released in 2001, Scratch's success has launched a wave of events &
products, including tours, live DVD's, and clothing. Director Doug
Pray summarizes the film: "From the South Bronx in the 1970s to San
Francisco now, the world's best scratchers, beat-diggers,
party-rockers, and producers wax poetic on beats, breaks, battles, and
the infinite possibilities of vinyl."

This event, sponsored by a grant from the City of Carlsbad, is one of
many free public events taking place at the Museum, 5790 Armada Drive,
Carlsbad, as part of its Summer Sounds series program.
