Snacks for gatherings

What are some good food/drink ideas for parties that are held at someones home? I want to try and get a end of year bash together for about 20 or so, and I don't want to do the normal beer, pizza, chips type of deal.

I would suggest anything fairly simple to make, unless you want to go all out and put a couple of hours into it. For snacks, local stores have party plates that always end up helping in a pinch, but most of the time you want to order them a day or two head just to not be caught off guard if you get to the store and they are sold out.

Nachos have always worked, or Mikes Lemonade as a drink.

Guess it really depends on the type of party you want to throw, and what people will be there etc. Maybe you could ask some of the people you think are going what they would want. Of course you don't need to tell them your asking, to be prepared for a party.

Either way, hope you find something everybody will like.

Thanks, whenever I see Nachos, I always end up wanting some. I think its the only food that I get an automatic craving for, weird. Mini food is always good, if the get together will be later in the evening, you can probably guess that most have already eaten supper by then, so thats what I am thinking so far.

Make a delicatessen and surprise your friends. Plan for the party early and try to learn some recipes that you know is not common where you live in right now. There are a lot of free recipes that can be taken from the internet.

For me, I would like to have an exquisite fruit punch and a Graham cake for that party.

What is a delicatessen? I like the idea of the fruit punch, you can have two, one for the designated drivers and one for the others that wish to drink, maybe thats just me though.

We normally do a fruit punch with fruit slices and sherbert and soda/juice. We also do a cheese/pickle/cracker platter. One of my favorites is mini rye bread slices with cream cheese and diced black olives. The little loaves that are the size of crackers. We also normally do something in the crockpot:chilli, cocktail weinies in BBQ sauce, or a soup/stew. Then subs/sandwiches or personal pizzas or a salad bar. Depends on what the occassion is. We've also had fun with a pot luck if enough people are coming. If its winter holiday time homemade egg nog is always mandatory.
