The other night I was sitting there happily mixing away on my Tascam
CD302s, and all of a sudden one of the decks stopped playing, then I
could hear the laser scanning the disc, and then the motor making a
crunching sound. I could eject the disc okay and there was no damage
to the CD. I've tried getting it to read a few CDs and it does the
same thing each time, spins the disc trying to read it before crunch,
crunch, crunch. The best it managed was one time blinking up the
track time before crunching.

I've had them 18 months from new. They've not been serviced the whole
time. The deck in question has been a bit temperamental of late,
refusing to read discs and stuff.

Any ideas what's wrong with it? Fixable? Expensive to fix? Reckon I
can get a replacement tray somewhere? I think the range is
discontinued.

Since they broke a couple of days ago I've been having a serious look
at Denon DN-D9000 unit, or maybe a pair of Pioneer CDJ1000s. Would be
build quality on more expensive decks mean they'd last (although the
list price on my Tascams was a grand when I bought them in an offer)?
To be fair to my poor Tascams I've been lugging them around to gigs
without a flight case.
