Vinyl?

Anyone still listen to these? I know that probably sounds really dumb coming from an old foggy like me, but I was just wondering. I still have a huge collection of 45's and a friend of my daughters likes to come over telling me how he is going to "spin them". As its his and her fault I am here now, trying to learn an entire new brand of music, I am a little slow so please bare with my goofball questions when I have them, thanks.

I don't really collect anything, I just have bits and pieces of tons of stuff. I do have a couple of 45's hanging up on my wall, more to remember someone that really liked the artist than to play (no player anymore), I still sometimes would like to listen to them though. I like hearing the difference between a 45, CD and all the fun formats they have now for the computers - makes me appreciate the music more, and where it all started from.

I wish more could feel the way you do. I have always told my children what goes around comes back around at some point or another. Like clothing and other fads, for music some stay, some go, most still come back around atleast once.

I remember my grand daughter telling me once she got these great pants, I looked at her and said "Those are hip huggers", she looked at me funny and refused to believe they had been around before. Really surprises me sometimes with the lack of any history that people have now.

It's because young people nowadays have no more interest in old books and old stories. They think that past is past and is no longer important today. What they don't know is that you can successfully face the future when you look at what happened in the past. That way you will never repeat the mistakes in the past.

But back to the main topic, may I please know what is 45? Is that a year or a kind of vinyl? Pardon my ignorance but I guess I'm one of the people I have just described in my first paragraph.

45's are smaller vinyl's - they were referred to by the speed you needed to play them at to hear them correctly.

I have tons of vinyls. Some newer things, but mostly older things from my parents. And nothing that I have listened to lately. I do have a very nice technics player, just never use it. What I have isn't really anything current dj's would spin.

I wish more people would beef up on their history, it is a good subject. You learn how things came about, what can influence one artist to another and see the spread of music since the start. I wish more thought this way, rather than "that is good now, I don't care what made this person that way" and crap like that.

Molly Jane is correct, you can read more here on the site I just found. Its hard to explain to younger folk sometimes, sorry about that. Just go down to the part about "Speed" and you can see the differences with all record types.
