volume levels

on sound forge 6.0 is there a way to ajust the volume that it records at,
because at the moment its too quiet and if i increase the volume afterwards
the peaks are too big and it clips

After you record it, go to the 'process' menu and select 'normalize'. This
feature scans the audio, finds the highest point, and increases the volume
to 0 dB (or whatever you select) without clipping.

I'm not sure if you can adjust the incoming volume in Sound Forge. You
should be able to set it with your sound card but that would depend on the
type of card you have.

then you should be more careful when adjusting levels, or try
limiting your recorded mix. i don't know about sound forge
(i use wavelab), but it shoul have the option to change the
dynamics of a wave file.
