for bedroom music creation (dance genres mostly) and have a budget of about
£110. which of these should i get: Edirol MA15Ds or Roland DM10 Studio
Monitors. Or if both of these are shit/unknown what would you recommend i

Re: which monitor speakers? HELP!

I get by with a decent set of high fi speakers and amp. If you by british
they tend to have a flatter response (japan is bassy and america trebly) as
long as you set them up by listening to your favourite cd and adjust eq's
until it sounds right they'll do fine for any bedroom studio. £110 is a
tight budget for monitors (remember you need active ones or a seperate amp)
but its not too shabby for hifi speakers and amps

Re: which monitor speakers? HELP!

how can you generalise which amps are best by which country they're made in?
Technics and Denon are both Japanese, and they sound fine to me!

Don't go with either of these mate, they're only tiny (4''), and the DM10's
are called that because they're only 10w, and MA15D's are 15w. If you're
playing dance, all you'll get is tinny shit, imposible for mixing. Computer
speakers are generally louder these days.

Try ebay (search for things like technics/denon/pioneer/sony/arcam etc.)
Remember you only need an amp and speakers.

Personally I think there's a cheaper way. You only really need one monitor
because you've got a headphone on the other ear. I've found something on
ebay which you might like. It's slightly over your £110 budget (£132.94 inc.
postage) but basically it's a plan.

It's a rip off of the RCF monitors, but the amps in these are quite good,
and handle 100w RMS / 200w Peak

Now then. In simple terms :-

RMS is what a speaker can handle on average, and can give more in bursts (ie
the kick drum in dance music could hit 170w no worries)
Peak or PMPO is the absolute maximum a speaker will take. (eg if a speaker
is 200w Peak and you put 201 thru it it blows.)

Many cheaper companies try to sell speakers and sound systems on their
wattage, especially in car audio, and they show the peak output, which means
you might as well halve it to make it closer to the real thing!

Avoid companies which advertise by PMPO!!!!

Good luck anyway mate
