Why DJ?

So... Why do you do it?

Do you do it for money? Vague dreams of local/national/worldwide fame? Is
it the "x-factor?" Is it for the ladies? Or is it just plain, "about the
music man, it's all about the music?"

Somehow I doubt that anyone *completely* feels that DJing is just about the
music... That's like saying dating is ALL about the good conversation.
Which we know it's not. Or is it...?

Re: Why DJ?

Once upon a time, it was because, it was the only job I knew of that one was
able to drink, smoke and play with the ladies while actually working. Now
it's a lifestyle. I could never consider myself a nine to fiver.

But it is about the music, it is also the rush you get when the crown is
going wild. It's a blend of all those things I believe.

Yeah, the main reason I spin is because I love music and I never learned
to play a traditional instrument. I'd probably be trying to make it in a
band if I had. Also, I think I love it because I use to do some acting;
with spinning I get a similar thrill of being in front of a crowd and
making them respond... I like performing. And unlike acting, I get to
play with a lot of cool equipment... I love having the lights and knobs
and sliders and hum of the amps and thump of the sub and all that cool
gear working all around me. I also like working on the equipment and
doing installs and upgrades for bars.

But of all the reasons, the number 1 reason is I love music. The money is
good, but not the *reason* I do it. I tell people that I'm lucky because
I have a hobby that I can turn a profit on, most people only spend money
to enjoy their hobbies. (But I do admit there are those occasionaly slow
nights that suck which I pick up just for the extra money...)

I like the looks on people's faces when I play something they like. Plus,
the excitement of the crowd when the floor is packed.

Ahhh! The popups... all over me... can't kill them fast enough...

Maybe you should also invest another few bucks in a real web server?

I gave up -- never did get to see the cool touch screen thingy.

At the time (oh about 100 years ago) I did it because I couldn't believe that
one could get paid for playing music - well that and my student loan!
