Cool Will Smith

Alright, alright... stop rolling your eyes!!

He is so awesome. I have a lot of his older stuff. BEFORE the days of the fresh prince. I was always impressed by the fact that he didnt need to cuss to get his point across. He ran with all the big boys, yet never had to resort to their cussing.

What has happened to the genre when it comes to that? Why do they all feel the need to drop an f'bomb? There are some rappers that i have to cut up and play in mixes only because they cuss too much for some of the clubs.

Indeed, you don't see many rappers who don't curse anymore. Will Smith was one of the originals with good values.

Will Smith was a lot better in the 80's/early 90's than he is now. Ever since he quit using the Fresh Prince name, his music has take a hit. Part of it is probably due to the absence of Jazzy Jeff, who made some awesome beats on the old records.

I have noticed that I tend to like the artist that does not need to feel they have to prove themselves to use certain words. Right now I am sticking with the easy listening rappers, but I am sure I have many ways to go getting caught up to everyone else.

Smile no cuss rappin'

I like Will Smith old and new. "Summertime" and "Getting Joggy Wit It" are good ones. The old school Hip Hop was pretty clean and I love playing it at the weddings I do. I buy Promo Only CD series that has the cuss words edited out but the subject matter still isn't desired by the vast majority of bride's I plan with. Early Hip Hop was all about the party and less about the ghetto and strife that African American's have experienced. It's their story in music and I respect that but it just isn't desired at the events I do.

I love to play "Rapper's Delight" by the Sugar Hill Gang and "Bust a Move" by Young MC. Sometimes I play "You can't touch this" by MC Hammer. Seems to work to get people out there to dance and you can't beat that!

Many people request "Sexy Rap" hits like Baby Got Back by Sir Mix a Lot and "Wild Thing" by Tone Loc. I still get occasional requests for "Tootsie Roll" too!

You spinners are probably making special mixes of these old hits but I play 'em straight.

Sometimes I like hearing the "bad words" not always, but during some sounds pending the subject matter, it could not be expressed any other way. I think it depends the age of the person listening to it, along with what the subject matter is really about weather its worth it or not (for any artist).

I think alot of people judge him from going from rap to non-rap, like he cant make up his mind. IMHO, he does fine with both, and the song about his son really gets to me. I'm not sure of the song, but its one of the first ones he did about when his son was first born - anyone know which I am thinking of?

Will Smith has a presence and he doesn't have to swear to be heard.Another thing that I like about him is that he doesn't try to sound like someone he isn't.That makes his work more interesting. Not sure if I feel that way because I knew him as an actor first and rapper next. But I liked his raps even after he became famous as an actor like in 'Born to Reign' where he revisits Jay (the MIB guy).He just tells his story and people listen. But then ,it will get monotonous if there is no variety.
